For Professionals

Thank you for your interest in Al-Anon/Alateen Family Groups in the Greater St. Louis area! One in three Al-Anon members first came to Al-Anon because of a friend or relative who had a drug problem. But after learning more about alcoholism and its effects, nearly nine in ten came to realize that alcohol abuse was also part of the overall problem, which included both alcohol and drugs. Al-Anon Family Groups has a long history of cooperation with professionals who work with families and friends of alcoholics. Doctors, nurses, counselors, therapists, social workers, attorneys, judicial, law enforcement, clergy, treatment centers, employee assistance and human resources personnel are just a few of the professions that find their patients/clients can benefit from Al-Anon/Alateen.

These professionals and others in a range of occupations encourage the friends and families of problem drinkers to attend Al-Anon or Alateen meetings, where clients and patients can find understanding and support that complement and reinforce professional treatment.

To assist professionals, Al-Anon Family Groups offers a variety of resources:

  • Speakers for conferences, workshops, and meetings.
  • "Friends, Families and Observers" meetings
  • Meetings at schools, institutions, and other facilities.
  • Local meeting schedules.
  • If you would like a local Al-Anon member to contact you to provide information about Al-Anon in your community, please contact the St. Louis Al-Anon Information Service office. Email us at aisoffice@stl-al-anon.org, or call us at 314.645.1572.
